History of Office Chair
Can you imagine the world without office chair? Imagine yourself to be working in office, sitting on either some sturdy wooden chair or even to
your horror, on a mat.
You surely would get a very bad backache and then you would frown at the boss (behind his back) and your work output would undoubtedly reduce
and then it would lead you to the most terrible thing, being fired.
All of this, surely, is not happening to you or any of your acquaintances, thanks to the most useful invention for office folks that
revolutionized the work environment.
The time of our benefactor office chair started when naturalist Charles Darwin put wheels beneath his bench in order to allow him the ease of
moving freely and get to his specimen in a jiffy.
With the advent of modern era and industrialization, the wave of improvement of office environment rapidly created a change everywhere. The
technology, environment, work force, procedures and policies, everything saw vast improvements.
The businessmen, along with all of their business acumen and cunning then realized that the output from employees could be increased if they
strategically improvise ways to speed up the work and thus output( in other words profit) of their employees.
All of it led to the very ingenious creation of the first chair for the office. The chair was primarily intended for the clerical staff that
could now remain sitting for longer hours on their comfortable, stylish and modern new seats.
The movement of the seat allowed them to reach a number of locations within their work area faster and thus also providing easier access to
the various tools and equipment scattered all around their bastion of work.
Later in 1970, ergonomics became very important. Now the consideration was not the ability of moving freely but how comfortable the office
chair actually was.
This led to further improvement in designs that also eliminated the risks of backaches, tiredness and repetitive stress injury. So, the modern
seats now also have armrests and back support and other handy features.
No office can today survive without this mere furniture piece. The name and price is nominal but the usefulness and need of this thing is
enormous.
